The Problem – Corrosion Causing Leaks In Cast Iron Drains
After approximately 30 years all cast iron drains become so thin from corrosion that a longitudinal crack manifests itself, resulting in leaks inside walls and floors of prominent buildings, such as Saks 5th Ave. The cost of excavation and lost revenues from retail sales would amount to millions of dollars. The vertical drains ranged from 3″ to 6″ in diameter.
The Solution – Cured In Place Pipe Lining (CIPP)
Since the structural integrity of the pipes had been compromised, we used CIPP to install a new pipe within the old pipes. Diameter was only reduced by approximately 5%, and the operation lifespan increased by 100 years!
Completed 4 drain pipes, each in separate overnight shifts which took one overnight period per pipe with no disruption to tenants or retail space as work was performed outside of normal business hours.
