Cast Iron Pipe Relining – How Strong Is It, How Long Does It Last, What About The Warranty? – By Hugo Forster
Cast iron pipe relining materials initially consist of a flexible fabric sock which is then saturated with an epoxy resin that hardens into “rock” in a few hours. Bur how strong is the resulting lining and can it withstand load bearing situations like under roads or building footers? We could get technical and explain that engineers tested the “flexural modulus” of the cast iron pipe relining material after it has hardened and have estimated the liner to have an “engineered life” of 100 years, OR you can check out this video of us abusing the liner with a hammer and jumping on it!
Our Cast Iron Pipe Relining Has A 50 Year Warranty
By the time we need cast iron pipe relining we probably wont live another 50 years, but given the physical strength and chemical resistance of the pipe lining material, the manufacturer (Perma-Liner), provides a 50 year warranty on the material. Trenchless Pipe Lining LLC matches that warranty with a 50-year labor warranty since the liner has turned into rock inside the pipe and cannot move, shrink, or be displaced in any way. Interestingly, the hardened pipe liner actually DOES flex a little which allows it to accommodate ground settlement without cracking, unlike clay or cast iron sewer pipes.
